The Team

Building a regulated diagnostic system takes three capabilities at once: the machine learning to make it work, the clinical and regulatory judgement to make it certifiable, and the commercial experience to get it adopted by institutions that are slow to adopt anything. We started the company with all three in the founding team-

Leon Thiel

Leon Thiel

Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Leon studied biochemistry at ETH Zurich, is trained in AI and financial modeling from IBM and Wharton, and leads the company's technical direction: system architecture, model and safety design, and accountability for reproducibility and regulatory compliance in the engineering. He founded Vivarus Diagnostics on the conviction that the rare disease diagnostic gap is now a data and reasoning problem rather than a scientific one — the knowledge required to recognise most of these conditions already exists in published criteria, and the evidence usually already exists in the patient's record.

Dr. Carsten Thiel

Dr. Carsten Thiel

Founder & Executive Chairman

Carsten has held chief executive and president-level positions at pharmaceutical companies specialising in rare disease therapies, with responsibility for European commercial operations, market access and product launches. He leads commercial strategy, partnerships with therapy developers, financial planning and reimbursement.

His view of the problem comes from the other end of it: he has launched treatments for conditions whose patients were still, on average, years away from being identified. Vivarus Diagnostics exists because that gap does not close by itself.

Dr. Dev Kumar

Dr. Dev Kumar

Founder & Chief Medical and Legal Officer

Dev is a qualified medical doctor whose career has been spent in legal and strategic roles in the pharmaceutical industry. He owns clinical strategy, clinical evaluation authorship, regulatory and data protection compliance, and the risk-benefit case for the system — the combination of medical training and regulatory practice that a Class IIa submission requires in one person.

Working with us

We hire machine learning and MLOps engineers, backend and integration engineers, clinical data scientists, and regulatory and quality specialists. If you want to work on a problem where the hard part is being right and provable rather than shipping quickly, write to us — including when nothing is posted.
